6 Ways to Keep Your Feet Fresh During Summer

Sweaty, uncomfortable swollen feet? Embarrassed about shoe odour? The warmer weather brings a lot of joy, however, the hot weather can bring out foot odour and moisture.

It's never too late to look after your feet, so, we've put together 6 ways to help you keep your feet fresh this summer (and all year round).

Exfoliate your feet

Exfoliate your feet by removing dead and rough skin. Use a a foot file or foot scrub, especially on the heels as this is where you are most likely to have calluses.

Keep your toenails trimmed

The best way to cut your toenails is straight across with a strong nail clipper. Do not cut them too short and never cut them down the sides as this can cause in-growing toenails. Finish by smoothing off the edges and tips with a nail file for comfort.

Moisturise your feet

The skin on our feet is up to 10 times thicker than the skin on the rest of our body, which is why it needs a much more intensive moisturising routineRemember to moisturise after every shower or, if you don't have the time, at least once a day before you go to bed at night.

Use an insole in your shoe

The use of insoles allows you to keep a lot of the sweat away from the shoes themselves, excellent for the lifespan, and you can replace the insoles when they start to get bad and worn. View our wide range of insoles, or read our blog on finding the right insole for you

Let your toes breathe

Since your nails are a living part of the anatomy, they need a break to breathe from time to time! If the weather allows you to, instead of wearing shoes that cover your feet completely, try for something that will allow you to have more breathability. We have a great collection of sandals and open toe shoes for both men and women.

Get your feet checked

podiatrist feet

Common problems like corns, cracked skin and ingrown toenails can be treated successfully. Conditions like diabetes or circulatory problems can all be picked up by looking at the feet. Visit one of our Shuropody clinics - we offer a range of podiatry treatments; from foot health checks to biomechanical assessments, all delivered by our HCPC registered podiatrists.

If you have a long-term condition, such as diabetes, arthritis or chronic problems with blood circulation in your legs, your feet are particularly vulnerable. Check your feet regularly and ensure you attend check-ups as requested. If you notice any problems, report them to your doctor as soon as possible.
